For the 2011 Edible Book Contest at my local university library, I chose to do a Hunger Games cake, titled The Cake That Was On Fire. It was the first time I’d done a cake using fondant and the cake was so huge that my husband had to help me lift the giant slab of black fondant on top.
I made a fondant mockingjay pin that was painted with edible gold glaze once dried. As a finishing touch, I added some fondant nightlock berries.
The cake tied for first in the category “Most Book-Like” and placed second in the People’s Choice category.
First place went to The Monster Book of Monsters cake. See a step by step photo process of this Hunger Games cake here.
